Terms of Service
These Terms govern your use of Bite, a consumer nutrition-tracking application provided by Bite’s UAE-based operator. Please read them together with the Privacy Policy.
1. Acceptance of these Terms
By creating an account, accepting these Terms, or using Bite, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Mandatory consumer and other rights under applicable law continue to apply.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 14 to use Bite. If you are under the legal age of majority where you live, you may use Bite only with any consent and supervision required from a parent or guardian. You must be legally permitted to use the service.
3. Accounts and security
- Provide accurate current information and keep it updated.
- Keep passwords, verification codes, devices, and sessions secure. Contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.
- You are responsible for activity through your account to the extent permitted by law and may not impersonate another person or access another user’s information.
4. What Bite provides
Bite provides tools for personalized nutrition targets, meal and weight logging, progress views, written-meal estimates, and AI-assisted photo meal analysis. Free manual meal entry remains separate from photo-scan allowances.
Features and availability may evolve. Any material change affecting paid value or mandatory consumer rights will be handled as required by applicable law and app-store rules.
5. Nutrition tracking and meal analysis
Bite interprets information you provide, including food identity, quantity, preparation, ingredients, brands, and serving information. Photo and written-meal results may combine AI interpretation with official commercial information and USDA FoodData Central records.
Nutrition values are estimates, not laboratory measurements. Portions, hidden ingredients, cooking fats, sauces, preparation, brands, product reformulation, image quality, and incomplete descriptions can materially affect results. Review and correct estimates before logging and verify labels or authoritative sources where accuracy matters.
6. AI and automated estimates
OpenAI-assisted systems may identify foods, preparation, commercial clues, and likely portions and may provide provisional nutrition when stronger grounding is unavailable. Bite applies source matching and plausibility checks, but automated results can still be wrong or incomplete.
Do not represent an estimated result as a measurement or professional assessment. If a photo or description cannot support a meaningful estimate, Bite may reject it or ask you to try again.
7. Nutrition sources
Bite may use verified manufacturer or restaurant pages, USDA branded records, or compatible generic USDA records. Exact availability varies by food, product, market, and source. USDA does not sponsor, certify, verify, or endorse Bite.
Third-party nutrition information may change, contain errors, or describe a different recipe, market, size, or preparation. Bite does not guarantee that any record is current or identical to the food consumed.
8. Health and medical disclaimer
Bite provides nutrition tracking and general informational tools. It does not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, or emergency services and is not a substitute for a physician, registered dietitian, or another appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, have or may have an eating disorder, take medication, or have special dietary or medical requirements, seek appropriate professional advice before making decisions based on Bite. Do not delay or disregard professional advice because of information in the app.
9. Allergies and food safety
Never rely solely on Bite to identify allergens or determine whether food is safe. A photograph or description may not reveal cross-contact, substitutions, hidden ingredients, or preparation conditions. Check packaging, ask the food provider, and follow advice from qualified professionals.
10. Your responsibilities
- Review entries and estimates before using or logging them.
- Use Bite lawfully and only for its intended consumer information purposes.
- Ensure that you have the right to submit photographs, text, and other content.
- Do not use Bite as an emergency, medical, diagnostic, or food-safety service.
11. Free features and scan allowances
Manual food logging and written meal entry do not consume photo scans. Under the current product rules, an authenticated free user receives one lifetime successful photo scan.
When Bite+ store subscriptions are enabled, Bite+ is intended to include 100 successful photo scans per verified monthly billing period. The allowance resets to 100 at each genuinely new verified period; unused scans do not roll over. Failed or cancelled analyses are handled under Bite’s server-authoritative entitlement rules.
12. Bite+ subscriptions
Current purchase availability
Real App Store purchasing and restoration are not implemented in the current app code. The existing purchase and restore controls are placeholders and must not charge you or grant Bite+.
Terms that apply when store billing launches
Bite+ is intended as a monthly subscription with no free trial. Before purchase, the app and App Store purchase sheet will display the current price, currency, billing period, included allowance, and applicable localized terms. A price shown in development code is not an offer until configured and presented by the App Store.
For iOS, purchase, payment authorization, automatic renewal, cancellation, restoration, and transaction receipts will be handled through Apple’s App Store and StoreKit-compatible infrastructure. The subscription will renew at the end of each monthly period unless cancelled through the user’s Apple account within the timing specified by Apple. Bite will grant access only after trusted server verification.
Cancellation stops future renewal but ordinarily does not end an already-paid entitlement before its verified period end. Refund requests and decisions for App Store transactions are handled under Apple’s applicable policies and mandatory law. Bite cannot promise a refund or override Apple’s decision.
13. User content
You retain your rights in content you submit. You give the operator a limited permission to host, process, transmit, reproduce, and analyze that content only as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, and maintain the requested Bite functionality and comply with law.
Do not submit unlawful, infringing, deceptive, malicious, or harmful content, or content you do not have permission to use.
14. Bite intellectual property
Bite’s software, branding, design, and original content belong to the operator or its licensors. These Terms give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the app for lawful personal purposes. They do not transfer ownership.
15. Prohibited conduct
- Bypass or manipulate authentication, subscriptions, scan allowances, reservations, rate limits, validation, or user isolation.
- Probe, scrape, reverse engineer, disrupt, overload, introduce malicious code, or interfere with Bite or its providers, except where a restriction is prohibited by law.
- Use automated means to access the service without permission or use Bite to violate another person’s privacy or rights.
16. Third-party services
Bite depends on services including Supabase, OpenAI, USDA FoodData Central, Apple, Expo, and device operating systems. Their own terms and policies may apply. Outages, changes, and data errors at those services can affect Bite, and the operator does not control them.
17. Availability and changes
We may maintain, update, suspend, or discontinue parts of Bite. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability. We will not intentionally remove access already paid for contrary to mandatory law or applicable store rules.
18. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bite is provided on an “as available” basis without warranties that estimates will be exact, complete, current, or suitable for a particular health objective. Nothing in these Terms excludes guarantees or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.
19. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential loss resulting from reliance on an unverified estimate, service interruption, or misuse of Bite. This does not exclude liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury where exclusion is unlawful, violation of mandatory consumer or data-protection rights, or any liability that cannot legally be limited.
20. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you are responsible for reasonable losses and claims caused by your unlawful misuse of Bite, violation of another person’s rights, or content you had no right to submit. This provision does not reduce mandatory consumer rights or apply to losses caused by the operator.
21. Suspension, termination, and deletion
We may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, serious misuse, or protection of users and providers. You may stop using Bite and request account deletion in Settings. Subscription cancellation and account deletion are different actions; deleting the app does not cancel an eventual store subscription.
22. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Bite or applicable requirements change. We will update the date and provide notice or seek renewed agreement where required. Changes do not retrospectively remove mandatory rights.
23. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, without limiting mandatory rights that apply where you reside. Disputes will be submitted to the competent UAE courts determined under applicable law, unless mandatory consumer law requires another forum. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue.
